Appointments

Your first appointment

I’ll sit you down at my kitchen table, brew us both a herbal tea, and listen.

Allow one hour for your first appointment. If you have a long and/or complicated health history, it may help to write out key dates and events in advance and bring them with you.

After we go through your history, I’ll ask you some questions to assess your physical constitution. I’ll look at your tongue and feel your pulse. I may also get you to pop onto a massage table so I can examine your belly (over a layer of clothing—no stripping off required!).

Next, we’ll come up with a treatment plan. I’ll choose some herbs that I think will best support your body’s function and I’ll test each of them with a few drops on your tongue, monitoring your pulse all the while. Those that give the most positive response will be blended in a customised formula just for you. This may be in the form of a tincture, a tea, capsules, or a combination.

The herbs represent Nature’s work. You’ll have some work to do too. It may involve an adjustment to your diet, exercise or sleep habits. Or it could simply be to sit down and read a book. Whatever the case, ‘The Work’ is every bit as important for supporting your improved health as the herbs, so I’ll need your commitment to giving it your best shot!

You’ll get a quick follow-up call from me a few days later to see how you’re getting on. I’ll also need to see you again in two or three weeks.

Follow-up appointments

These last up to half an hour and are an opportunity to assess your progress. What happens in a follow-up appointment depends on your health situation and ongoing needs.

Any new or adjusted prescriptions require an in-person consult. Repeats can be ordered by phone or email.  Postage costs may apply.

About the herbal medicines

I grow as many of the herbs as possible on my Nelson Lakes property. Others are wildcrafted locally and sustainably. The rest are purchased from a trusted supplier and are certified organic.

I personally process the raw herbs into extracts, capsules and teas on site so that I can be sure of their quality.

Safety of herbal medicines

Herbs are generally very safe and it’s rare for anyone to get an ‘adverse reaction’ to them. However, they are also potent and can cause rapid changes to how your body feels. That’s why I’ll always give you the first dose of your formula during the appointment.

If you have any concerns about your prescription, please contact me.
